Venice behind the Mask

Last night we got tickets to go to a live production of Venezia, the Show - which is put on in English. And has headsets for other languages. On our way to the theatre we passed a gondola traffic jam.

It was the same on both sides of the bridge. The gondolas were so full and there were so many of them, we decided it must be a tour that included a gondola ride. Anyway, we crossed the bridge, down a "street" and to the theatre.

We arrived at the theatre a little early, in spite of stopping to watch the traffic jam. That big stone thing in the middle of the square is a basin, which used to be all over Venice as a water supply. Rain water went through pipes to an underground cistern, then people could dip their buckets into the well in the square to get water. They are now all closed off and unusable, but they still are in a lot of the little squares in Venice. There were two big fancy bronze ones in the Doges Palace.
No photos of the show. First we had a documentary film, then a little break, in which I had a Bellini and Aidan had a Sprite. The bar tender suggested Aidan try my Bellini as it is a typical Venetian drink. The night before at the cafe the waiter had served us each a complementary Bellini, which meant I got two. The legal drinking age in Italy is 16, and I guess Aidan can pass. Anyway, the show's concept was a family of costumers and mask makers in Venice, through the years to show the history of Venice. A little bit of singing, some masks, and we found out why Casenova got arrested. Not fantastic, but still quite entertaining.
When we left the theatre it was raining again. Aidan had mistakenly worn her shoes that cause it to rain. We  did both have rain jackets and umbrellas. On our way back to the hotel we saw some of the flood platforms out in St Mark Square, so Aidan was concerned we may be having a flood - but it was just one over zealous flood platform captain. The rest weren't out and it never flooded.
